Inspiration

Consumers increasingly want to understand where products come from, whether sustainability claims can be trusted and what evidence supports those claims. IKABENE.tech created Ask the Evidence v0.4 to explore how conversational experiences could make product transparency easier to understand.

What it does

IKABENE Ask the Evidence v0.4 is an interactive, browser-based prototype exploring how an Alexa+-style conversational experience could guide consumers through a product's evidence journey.

Users can ask about product origin, sustainability claims, missing verification evidence and recommended next steps. The demonstration uses a fictional jewellery product and clearly distinguishes documented claims from unverified information.

How we built it

We developed a standalone prototype using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, with a rule-based conversation engine and a four-stage evidence journey: Origin, Claim, Gaps and Action Plan.

The interface includes sample evidence records, readiness indicators, explanatory responses and a downloadable evidence checklist. It runs in a web browser without requiring a backend service.

The prototype simulates an Alexa+-style experience; it is not connected to Alexa+ or a live AI service.

Challenges we ran into

The principal challenge was presenting complex product provenance and sustainability evidence in a simple, understandable conversational format.

We also needed to ensure that simulated responses did not imply that fictional evidence had been independently verified or certified.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built and tested a functional interactive prototype demonstrating how consumers can explore product origins, question sustainability claims, identify evidence gaps and receive suggested actions.

The experience incorporates transparent evidence limitations and a structured journey rather than presenting unsupported claims as verified facts.

What we learned

Trustworthy product transparency requires more than an attractive interface. Evidence must be traceable to its source, verification status must be clear and missing information must be communicated openly.

We also learned the importance of separating a functional simulation from production-ready AI, assurance and compliance capabilities.

What's next

Our proposed development roadmap includes authenticated product records, source-document retrieval, stronger audit trails and more advanced evidence assessment.

We would also explore genuine Alexa+ integration through supported Amazon developer tools, subject to technical feasibility and platform requirements.

Our longer-term ambition is to make product transparency and evidence-based decision-making more accessible through IKABENE Evidence AI and Evidence OS.
