Our project was inspired by a challenge many Muslim families face today: Muslim youth often struggle with stress, anxiety, loneliness, identity issues, and communication with their parents, yet finding mental health support that understands both their faith and culture can be difficult. We wanted to create a solution that helps Muslim youth access professional support while also helping parents learn how to better support their children.
During our research, we learned that most therapy platforms focus mainly on the person receiving therapy. However, we discovered that many parents genuinely want to help but often do not know how to approach difficult conversations or recognize what their child is experiencing. This inspired us to create a platform that supports both the child and their family while protecting the child's privacy.
We designed a platform where Muslim youth can describe their struggles, select therapist preferences, and receive personalized matches with qualified Muslim therapists. Parents receive general guidance and educational resources that help them communicate more effectively with their children without accessing private therapy conversations. We created user flows, therapist matching logic, parent support features, and safety-focused privacy protections to make the experience useful and trustworthy.
One challenge we faced was balancing privacy and parental involvement. We wanted parents to be informed enough to support their child while ensuring that therapy remains a safe and confidential space. Another challenge was designing a matching system that considers factors such as age, therapist specialty, language, location, and user preferences. Through these challenges, we learned the importance of user-centered design, privacy, trust, and building solutions that address the needs of an entire support system rather than just one individual.
Our goal is to help Muslim youth receive the support they need while empowering families to build stronger relationships and healthier communities.
