Inspiration
I was working with a charity project recently and I was thinking, since I'm building a game in this hackathon, why not build something meaningful that can actually bring value to the community. This is where the idea of Igniting Hope comes from.
Problem Statement
I know it's weird to mention problem statements in game development, but my principles are always built for things that can actually contribute to real life problems.
The problem I see in the market right now is that most of the charitable funds are inconsistent. There are few reasons behind it such as people don't see the results of their donations, people don't see their achievements and fame, the community is not visible and more.
To be honest, this game won't solve these problems hundred percent , but it's just part of a Gamification strategy that can contribute to the charity industry.
What it does
Igniting Hope is a simple 2D building game by placing "hearts" and leaving a inspiration message to the "community world". When players make a donation, he will receive a mystery box with a random "heart". The "heart" will vary in color, size, and brightness, depending on the amount of donations. Players can also play mini-game to increase the size and brightness of the heart and keep the community active.
Igniting Hope it's more than just a game - it's a community world that builds light, hope, faith, love and bring motivation to the charity.
How I built it
Igniting Hope is built with Paypal API, Wix components and Velo. The languages behind the project is CSS, HMTL5, Javascript and Velo API.
Challenges I ran into
I'm very new to Wix and it took me a while to figure out how to use it and how to debug it. And the funniest thing is that I got stuck in the collection error for half a day because of the permission settings.
Accomplishments that I've proud of
I saw this hackathon yesterday, and since I was new to Wix, I tried to give up many times. And the thing I'm most proud of is that I didn't give up and managed to develop the game from scratch within 24 hours by myself. I planned to find teammates to work with, but because the working environment was not good, I was worried that it would affect others, so I finally chose to do it alone.
What I learned
I learned how powerful is Wix and the Velo API! Honestly, I've built website builders like Wix before, and from my experience, I can say that Wix is really awesome! Not only from a non-coder point of view, but also very user-friendly from a coder's point of view, such as example auto-complete, debugging, and more! Really like it!
Innovativeness
I really thought there would be charity games on the market, but unfortunately they are hardly to find in the market. I believe there is no similar game currently on the market, I really hope there will be more charity games in the future that can help and contribute to the charity community.
What's next for Igniting Hope
My initial idea was to build a game based on a 2D interactive world community where donors and charity people could interact with each other, but due to time constraints I didn't manage to build it and ended up building a simple game with the same meaning. So the next step is to add more interactions and gameplay features to the game to make it more engaging and fun! And the next big thing is to make this game a template so Wix's charity site can easily have this game on their site.
