Inspiration
IELTSpot was inspired by the need for smarter, more accessible IELTS preparation. Many students struggle without proper feedback or guidance, so I set out to build a tool that feels like a personal tutor and helps users improve efficiently.
What it does
IELTSpot is an AI-powered IELTS practice platform that provides personalized feedback, band score evaluations, and real-time insights across Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening. It helps users track progress, spot weak areas, and get better results faster.
How I built it
I built IELTSpot using Laravel for the backend and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, with OpenAI handling AI feedback and scoring. I also used WordPress for SEO-driven content like blogs and tips.
Challenges I ran into
Key challenges included designing consistent AI prompts, handling accurate Speaking transcriptions, managing costs, and making feedback feel both helpful and natural for learners.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud to have built the entire platform solo, including a custom AI scoring system. The platform runs smoothly, stays within budget, and delivers a complete IELTS practice experience.
What I learned
I learned how to structure AI prompts for consistent results, integrate multiple tools effectively, and prioritize user feedback to build features that matter.
What's next for IELTSpot
Next steps include launching premium plans, adding tutor tools and mobile support, improving Listening audio with TTS, and expanding the content library for SEO and learning.
