Inspiration
One day as we are working on our donation based startup, we were brain storming on how we can fundraise more. meanwhile we came across the power of the VR. that is when we decided to use Virtual reality experience which was a new way to trigger peoples to donate. Across three studies conducted utilizing actual charitable appeals, multiple causes, and real donations, we find robust support for our prediction that VR (vs. 360-degree 2D) appeals can elicit higher donations which was 60% more effective than the traditional 2D one's.
What it does
It enables people to visit our VR art and photography gallery and encourages them to donate in order to assist us in meeting our goal of reaching people in need on time. The audiences will tour the donation's gallery. the gallery consists of different types of donation i.e vulnerables for the audience to choose from and donate online. Where the audience are encountered with a picture, description and a donate button of each people.
How we built it
We use webVR, which we believe is the internet's future. We decided to use what is best to showcase and tell our story in this very short period of time, which is the future of the internet, due to the limited time provided.
Challenges we ran into
The first challenge is, of course, time. We had to start building as quickly as possible, which leaves us to rush to our project and decide what is best to deliver the need story. we were planning to record a 360 degree video of the less fortunate one's story, which was usefull to engage the audience's more. though we couldn't do it within this short time.
The second challenge was to change our ideas in to Virtual Reality and shortage of the Oculus Quest Headset.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The most major achievement we have achieved is being a part of this Hackthon and meeting other VR Guru's from different African countries and having the chance to work with Guzo Technologies.
The second accomplishment is working on putting what is on our minds to the ground and making it have a positive impact on people's lives.
What we learned
This hackathon taught us a lot about game engines like Unreal Engine 5 and webVR tools like A frame and Three.js.
What's next for iDonated
We are planning to change the picture in the gallery to a 360 degrees video of our content. this is to immerse our audiences more into a story and create connection with the story. as a result this will give them a high urge to donate. We have a big vision for raising funds for people in need by selling NFT on web3 and virtual reality in the future.
