Inspiration

As music and dance lovers, our team wanted to incorporate a fun way to learn iconic k-pop choreographies. Inspired by Just Dance, we decided to find a way to make learning fun, allowing live feedback a side by side comparison to original dance videos.

What it does

Idolytics allows users to receive a side by side comparison of key k-pop choreography on its practice page. By calculating similarity scores between the original choreography and live user footage, it can display ratings based on dance similarities.

How we built it

We built Idolytics in a Vite environment using React, JavaScript, and CSS. Our computer vision was developed using MediaPipe and its tools to keep track of user and choreography through reference landmarks stored in JSON files.

Challenges we ran into

We were all using technologies we've never used before. A large portion of our time was spent learning, testing, and debugging. Structuring our project and figuring out our key roles was challenging, as we had the idea but no clue on how to implement it. Every single step and feature was trial and error, trying to fit it in to get a basic and presentable MVP that could accurately calculate scores.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Starting everything from scratch, our teams have managed to build a fully functional websites that teaches others how to dance, all within 36 hours of work. We also utilized and learned many new things such as Figma and Media pipe, and integrated within our code. We've also built this app centered around what we love so we feel truly proud of what we've accomplished.

What we learned

We've learned so much these past weekend, most of us had little to no experience making a webpage so this was a truly great learning experience for us. Thing's we've learned ranged from new Javascript function and codes, to new applications such as Media Pipe and Figma.

What's next for Idolytics

We definitely would love to incorporate more songs so more people have more song choices and fun. Along with that, we want to support other devices other than computer like phones and i-pad to also be able to use our website. Lastly we would love to be able to allow user to play and practice full songs, small segments of a song, and also slow the song down!
