Inspiration
We were inspired by our love of idle games, and our popular Steam game "Scream Collector." We've been wanting to bring "Scream Collector" to mobile, but decided to use the Horizon Worlds creator tools to create an entirely new game.
What it does
Players build up their resources as they explore a vast western frontier filled with puzzles, quest, and challenges - unlocking and upgrading buildings and tools on a mission to repair the broken down train.
How we built it
We used the desktop editor to facilitate the process: bringing in models, using the built-in AI tools to create models, textures, and sound effects.
Challenges we ran into
As always, time is a challenge. This is a huge world, and the team has worked tirelessly to craft an epic adventure in a short amount of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really proud of the unique game mechanics: Players are able to progress at their own pace while enjoying the social aspects of cooperative play. You can only enter buildings that you have unlocked, and buildings unlocked earn at the level that the individual players are at, not as a group. All progress is saved, so players can come and go as they please, without losing any progress.
What we learned
We saw lots of new tools become available in the Desktop Editor during the contest, and we've enjoyed learning and using the AI model, texture, and sound effect creation. Almost every sound, from gunshots, to panning for gold, to horses galloping. was created right in the Desktop Editor using the tools.
What's next for Idle Wild West
For player retention, we have several buildings, quests, and puzzles that will become available in the coming weeks and months.
