Eating disorders are very common in young adults, which can cause mental and physical pain. Youth must be given resources to learn how to have proper eating habits, to prevent eating disorders in the future. To help with this, Ideal Meal was created to help middle school and high school students form healthy eating habits.
What it does
Users can create an account and start learning about different food groups and how they help our bodies. This motivates users to incorporate these foods into their diets. Ideal Meal also provides a tracker for users to keep a daily log of each meal they had. A practice page allows users to test their new food knowledge in an interactive way. Ideal Meal has resources to aid any user who needs help and information about eating disorders.
How we built it
We built Ideal Meal with HTML and CSS. We are more experienced with front-end development and wanted to focus on making our design unique and engaging.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we ran into included our expectations on what we should include on our website. Through brainstorming and coding, we were able to finally decide which sections we wanted to include. There were also some challenges with getting our design to present the way we wanted it to. Through trial and error, we were able to manage the challenges and get past them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having a functional website created by our beginner skills. It took a lot of adapting to new ideas and cooperation to create our vision for the project. We are also proud of our design since we put in a lot of work for it.
What we learned
We further expanded our knowledge of HTML, CSS, and design. Through this hackathon, we were able to learn how to code new features such as the popup on the Learn page.
What's next for Ideal Meal
To begin with, we would like to add to our Practice page so that there are more fun activities such as a drag and drop game, as well as a Kahoot. We would also like to include a system where users create a log for their fitness schedule since working out is very important for health.
