Inspiration
We’ve all been there: you have a "billion-dollar idea" at 2 AM, but by the next morning, the excitement fades or you struggle to articulate why it works. The reality is that 90% of startups fail, often because founders build products nobody wants.
We wanted to solve the "Solution looking for a Problem" fallacy. We realized that professional business consulting and market research are expensive and slow. We asked ourselves: What if you could have a Y-Combinator partner or a seasoned VC in your pocket, ready to critique your idea instantly? That was the spark for Idea Validator—a tool to democratize business intelligence and help founders fail fast or succeed faster.
What it does
Idea Validator is a comprehensive sanity check for early-stage startup concepts.
The Brainstormer: If you don't have an idea, our AI Generator creates unique business concepts based on specific industries or trends.
The Validator: Users input a description of their startup idea, and the app generates a robust report containing:
The Lean Canvas: A structured, visual breakdown of the business model (Problem, Solution, USP, Channels, etc.).
Competitor Landscape: Identifies potential direct and indirect rivals.
Riskiest Assumption: Pinpoints the one specific unknown that could kill the business and suggests a specific experiment (e.g., "Run a smoke test landing page") to validate it.
Viability Score: An objective 0–10 rating based on market need, feasibility, and scalability.
Critical Analysis: AI-generated "tough love" feedback on where the idea is weak.
How we built it
We built Idea Validator using Base44:
Challenges we ran into
Prompt Engineering: Our biggest hurdle was stopping the AI from being too polite. We had to iterate extensively to get it to provide harsh, actionable critique rather than generic encouragement.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The UI Experience: We are really proud of how the Lean Canvas renders. It takes abstract text and instantly organizes it into the industry-standard grid format.
The "Riskiest Assumption" Feature: We tested the app on our own project ideas, and the "suggested tests" feature gave us genuine, actionable advice on how to validate our own app.
Speed: Going from a vague sentence to a full business analysis in under 30 seconds feels like magic.
What we learned
The power of Structured Output: We learned that LLMs are infinitely more powerful when you constrain their output formats. It turns a chatbot into a backend logic engine.
Validation is hard: Building a tool about validation taught us how difficult it is to actually validate a product. It forced us to think critically about our own features.
Prompt context matters: Providing the AI with the persona of a "Product Manager" vs. a "Venture Capitalist" yields vastly different results.
What's next for Idea Validator
Live Web Access: Integrating a search API (like Tavily or Bing) to allow the AI to look up real-time competitors rather than relying on training data.
Pitch Deck Generator: One-click export that turns the Lean Canvas into a downloadable 10-slide pitch deck PDF.
Notion/Trello Integration: Sending the "Suggested Tests" directly to a user's project management workspace.
