"Qualcomm Wireless Reach partners with eLimu and other organizations on a project which uses 3G technology to deliver high quality, locally relevant educational content through a learning application to children in Kenya who would otherwise lack adequate access to quality education. Since a “good” education is considered one of the best routes out of poverty we want to make education more affordable in effort to bolster learning outcomes by developing a Raspberry Pi-based caching solution that can be integrated with the BRCK, thus providing a faster and lower-cost means of accessing eLimu learning content updates. Hackers will work on a solution that allows the eLimu content to be downloaded to the Raspberry Pi once, such that it can provide the content to each tablet locally. Our goal in creating such a solution is to drive the cost of syncing per student/tablet from $22 to $0.50 and decreasing the average failure rate in the classroom from 14% to 0%. (see detailed proposal for more info on eLimu and BRCK)"
