Inspiration
This project seeks to give a second chance to blind people and make them feel free to walk safe with a lowcost product.
What it does
Basically an ultrasonic sensor sends the time that the sound took to hit an object, then our code uses that data and obtains the distance where the object is located to compare it with some length conditions and if that distance is lower than the predefined one, the system will send an alarm to the user. This concept applies for the left and right arm and the core in the buckle.
How we built it
We used low cost microcontrollers (arduino), ultrasonic sensors, little speakers (buzzers) and RF modules.
Challenges we ran into
The lack of sleep was really hard but we've been struggling with the RF modules all night long.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a functional prototype for just 24 hours contest and we have a couple ideas for the next versions of this project.
What we learned
We learned about RF and Bluetooth transmission and how to achive a reliable communication system between each of the components from our system.
What's next for ICTEC
Improve this project adding geo localization and maybe use headphones instead of speakers.
