Inspiration

Since last semester, SBU has required professors to shift from BlackBoard to BrightSpace For SBU students. We need to remember which classes are on the blackboard and Brightspace. It comes up with our project “iConnect.” We asked around 35 students in the library how many classes they have on Blackboard and how many on Brightspace. While most courses are still on Blackboard, 80% of the respondents have at least one class on Brightspace. Thus, it could be inconvenient for students to access both LMS. It would be cool to have something like clicking and extracting all the assignments and grades. Some of them think that BrightSpace is hard to use, and they missed the deadline for the assignment. iConnect cares about SBU students' requirements and wants to help them succeed. iConnect is the connection for BlackBoard and BrightSpace and combines the assignment due dates. Also, for the mental health of the SBU students, iConnect wants to provide the function for classmates to chat and network easily from our classes. One of our group mates had the experience that it was hard to find his classmates and network with them. iConnect like to provide a place in our chatting area from our chatting box. Everyone could make friends and socialize from here. Except for study and networking, iConnect also wants to be a place for SBU students to have fun, so we provide a game option for students to have fun. There are many different websites that SBU students use on our chrome extension page, and they are easy to access. We could also get support from the motivating quotation. iConnect cares about students, and our general goal is to help students succeed and have fun in college life.

What it does

iConnect is a great, handy application that can help students manage their workload and finish their education effectively. The iConnect is the pipeline between Blackboard and Brightspace. Students can view all assignment deadlines by clicking the iConnect symbol. The created extension retrieves all your upcoming assignments from Blackboard and BrightSpace and arranges them automatically according to your preferences. Additionally, there is a chat box for students to socialize and talk with their classmates. Also, we have a game option for SBU students to have fun after their studies. iConnect wishes to provide the user with more excellent facilitation. Students can use iConnect to navigate various websites, including Handshake, Degree Works, Campus Printer, etc. On our chrome extension page is our motivating quotation, which is our hope to support SBU students to have a positive and productive day. We care about SBU students, their studies, mental health, and social life.

How we built it

Through our project, we define our project requirements. We want to help SBU students and contribute our power to support them. We wish SBU students to use our project. We came up with the idea that we wanted to be a connection between Blackboard and BrightSpace, of the inconvenience of using both platforms. Furthermore, we could be an area for SBU students to chat and talk with each other. After we had settled down the requirements, we defined our solution and constraints with the specifications. We use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build our product. We came up with several solutions and constraints for each solution. The chrome extension is our final solution and includes our assignment information with the grade, the chatting box, and the game. Time is the main issue we have faced.

Challenges we ran into

Coding language and time issues are the main challenges we ran in the project. HTML, CSS, and javascript are the new language for most of our group mates. We have spent a couple of hours fixing one bug.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We completed our first project, called iConnect, after 20 hours of work! We are proud of it because it exceeded our expectations and has the function of our idea. We hope this will improve SBU student performance, make academics easier, network with classmates, and get support from iConnect. For our whole team, we like to use iConnect, and I would also recommend our SBU students to use iConnect since this is so convenient and nice.

What we learned

We have learned how to organize a project and the project's process. Team working is another excellent experience we have learned from this project: how to split the work and finish based on our requirements and solutions. The Programming language, such as javascript, CSS, and HTML, is also helpful for our career field.

What's next for iConnect

This project's development was delightful. We had an extraordinary experience with this. iConnect is a valuable tool, and we would tell more people to use it. Our purpose and goal are to help our students succeed.
