Inspiration
World is going through loneliness pandemic and everyone is questioning if they are happy? and this question is eating away whatever little moments of joys they get their way, for they are always seeking for more. so question becomes about getting that awareness back to present day. to make them see that yes! they do indeed have so much that happens daily that does makes them feel alive.
What it does
What Ichigo does is simply nudge user once a day to note down "What made you smile today?" that way they reflect on day to find that one tiny thing that brought smile on their face. and that is enough to make them feel alive. overtime what happens is with enough consistency user builds digital wall of happiness. where they can come back on hard days and just read any entry and that would instantly put smile on their face. also, they get clear sense of what makes them feel alive and to come back from consumption world into roots of what truly feels like joy.
How we built it
we made Ichigo with simple design principle in mind. we wanted to offer our users an infinite canvas. a canvas that feels like safe space for them to write and stick anything they find worthwhile. what happens often is we do want to journal, but journalling apps keeps demanding one more line of reflection before it feels worthwhile. so, we wanted to make little things worth noticing and noting down. as for canvas and sticking notes up in real life in our own homes, we lack that privacy to make it truly safe. and offering it on digital canvas is just perfect, for we carry our phones everywhere and psychology suggests that we must have box of things that brings us back to present when we are too anxious and Ichigo just does that. We used Jetpack compose, Kotlin, Revenue Cat to build our app. It's been constantly in work for last 3 months.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into multiple challenges. While building Ichigo, when you abide by pre-built design languages, you can just follow guidelines and get things done. but when you have infinite canvas to deal with, handling how things are put out, which constraints you can add or implement to make it function as user would love to see? that's huge challenge. to make something so simple, feel so private, so personalized and unique to individual user.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating an app that brings users awareness back to present to reflect on day through a positive lens. it's such a wholesome idea and honestly? it's what we truly needed for ourselves too and we can't be happier that we were able to pull this off. it's been most fullfilling challenge to bring digital canvas to live and we're proud of results.
What we learned
We learnt that solving for your pain points is more valuable and satisfying through the process. like you would expect things to work just perfectly and must fulfil all those parameters of success to make any idea matter. but when you build for yourself. your own satisfaction with product is far joyful and honestly makes you feel proud of your accomplishment. and to realize it might change lives if not thousands it would at least help another soul out to look and reflect on life little more positively? that makes all efforts worth it. and we would love to spread this idea further to improve human experience.
What's next for Ichigo - Positivity Journal
Ichigo is at initial stage at this point with just text support but with upcoming builds we plan on adding - voice note, drawing, image support, sticker support, note card styles, Auto backup, Multiple login support too and to offer users even more advance ways to customize and truly make it their own. level of nit picking and personalization we want to offer with Ichigo is far diverse and far fullfilling as a project to work on.
