Inspiration
With more people working from home after the COVID-19 lockdown, 63% of workers have spent less time socialising with co-workers. (Clutch Report, 2020) However, research shows that socialising and becoming familiar with your team is critical for team performance as it accounts for more than 50% of positive changes in communication patterns. (Teambuilding Statistics, 2021).
We also know many students, including us, find icebreakers awkward and boring at times. Therefore, we wanted to create a fun and entertaining experience to be introduced to new people without being boring.
The colours were inspired by a palette which expresses fun and excitement while maintaining a certain level of professionalism.
What it does
ICEBREAKERSDON'TSUCK provides a collaborative and problem solving environment for team members and helps to solidify strong bonds with colleagues or even other students even if working from home.
How we built it
We built our website using HTML, CSS & Javascript and our own ingenuity (and the power of the internet).
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges including merging difficulties with Github, formatting issues and difficulty making it responsive to all types of displays. We had many technical difficulties along the way, including finding the right tools and code to translate our ideas into a working function of a webpage because we were not very familiar with coding. Furthermore, there were many issues with time management.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how we were able to design our project and then implement it to reflect our vision of how the site would look and how it would function. We were also proud of our teamwork and problem solving as a team.
What we learned
We learnt many coding skills including basics on how to get a website up and running, using github collaboratively for the first time in a team, how to effectively search the internet for help with coding and effective communication with each other.
What's next for ICEBREAKERSDON'TSUCK
We would like to improve and add more ice breaker games for people to enjoy, which are hopefully more complex in nature as we grow our skills in coding and learn more about frameworks for our code and APIs.
