Inspiration
We were inspired by stories of people meeting on planes, and wanted to increase the chances of it happening, and letting you connect with anyone on the plane, not just the person next to you!
What it does
We built a prototype for a mobile-based in-flight chat application that works using the local area network of the on-board wifi to match people that can get to know each other anonymously. If all goes well, they can then get to know each other in person after the flight.
How I built it
We built our prototype using basic HTML5 technologies and AngularJS, then wrapping those into a "native" mobile application using PhoneGap.
Challenges I ran into
AngularJS was new to most of us, so getting started with it was a bit slow. Otherwise most of the implementation was smooth.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We managed to build something concrete to show, and even deployed the application on our Android phones to facilitate demos.
What I learned
We have learned how commited airlines are to shaking up the industry, and were all surprised to learn that many of our innovative ideas had already been implemented in one way or another.
What's next for Icebreaker
Integrating the chat application with in-flight pruchases, social media, and other added-value features..
