Because navigating the job market can be difficult, we wanted to make career fairs, a unique opportunity for students to connect with recruiters during college, easier and less stressful. We noticed that students often don't know what to say to recruiters, so we brainstormed ways to help with career fair preparation and follow-up. We built Icebreaker to give students an instant, personal "wingman" right in their workflow, so they can walk up to any booth with full confidence in under 30 seconds.

Icebreaker is an on-demand career fair assistant designed to eliminate the anxiety students feel before speaking with recruiters and the need for manual research. You just open your resume and paste the list of companies, recruiters, and event speakers at the event. Icebreaker reads your background and pulls your projects, skills, and experience directly from your open resume, scrapes company career pages, and ranks your top matches based on your background. For every booth, it gives you a natural 20–30 second pitch, a specific icebreaker opener, a relevant question, and exact CV highlights to lead with.

After the event, if a student opens their notes on the conversation they had with a recruiter, the agent drafts a personalized email. All the student has to do is review the email, make final edits, and send the follow-up.

We built the agent with Superhuman Go and used the Superhuman Go extension with connectors to Gmail and the student's active browser tabs and document workspace. Context Extraction: By leveraging Superhuman Go's workspace extension, Icebreaker reads the open resume or CV document directly from the active window without forcing the user to upload files or manually reenter their work history. Real-Time Web Research: When a student pastes a list of target companies or event recruiters, the agent executes live web searches across official career portals and team pages to verify active job openings, tech stacks, and team roles. Smart Matching Engine: We built prompt guardrails that strictly map verified company requirements to the student’s actual resume experience, eliminating fake claims or hallucinated skills. Mobile-Ready Outputs: The pitches, icebreaker openers, and strategic questions in concise, modular blocks designed to be read in seconds on a mobile screen between booth visits.

We found that many websites don't allow extensions. For example, we weren't able to integrate with websites like LinkedIn and had to change our original idea accordingly.
