Inspiration
While still working within the consulting industry, I was eager to make a switch back to the crypto industry where I briefly interned a few years prior. Thus I was actively networking and cold messaging people in the industry for opportunities. At the same time I wanted to explore the power of programmable money, so I teamed up with my manager who is an experienced software developer. Together we produced the prototype of icebreak in one weekend. We have since deployed this concept across three blockchains, finally settling on NEAR.
What it does
Icebreak is a messaging app that allows senders to attach a reward for replying. The sender, upon receiving the conversation link, can chose to answer to the sender, and thus collects his reward.
How we built it
A NEAR smart contract, leveraging keypom link drops, react native front end, and for this submission we replaced our firebase database with a calimero data storage solution.
Challenges we ran into
Calimero is not fully developed yet and limited in functionality so an end user deployment will take some more time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Enabling a truly private messaging solution that connects wallets to another while also having the reward functionality
What we learned
Consumer crypto will be mobile first, thus having a mobile wallet that seamlessly integrates with an app like icebreak is going to be crucial going forward.
What's next for Icebreak
Removing onboarding friction to make it accessible to the average internet user.
