Inspiration
We were inspired by the melting polar ice caps. The project is meant to draw attention to the deteriorating situation in the Antarctic due to climate change.
What it does
This is a simple video game. You play as a penguin who is running on the ice caps and trying to avoid falling in the water.
How we built it
First, we brainstormed ideas that related to a certain area of activism, the environment. Then, switching between Rep.lit and VS Code, we used Python to create the game code. The project didn't really load on Replit, but we used a Replit link because we didn't know how to add a link to VS Code.
Challenges we ran into
We had a hard time rendering multiple icebergs, and also causing the penguin to fall when not on an iceberg.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a functional game, that is simple but complete.
What we learned
We learned how to create and use dictionaries. We also realized how to troubleshoot issues on our own.
What's next for the State of the Penguins
If we had more time, we would want to add a system where collecting a certain amount of an object prevented the icebergs from vanishing. This would be to promote making efforts towards climate issues. The object could be garbage or an anti-pollutant.
