Inspiration ICEBREAKER was inspired by the need to bridge the gap between strangers in new environments like first days at work, hackathons, or team-building events. We wanted to create a fun, immersive experience that fosters trust, collaboration, and connection. By combining Snap Spectacles with the excitement of teamwork, we designed a tool that sparks relationships through action, not just conversation.

What it Does ICEBREAKER is a collaborative AR game where 2 team of players guide each other to collect virtual objects. The twist? Players cannot see their own objects. Success relies on clear communication and teamwork, with the goal of collecting the most objects before time runs out. The game features dynamic object spawning, real-time scoring, and a timer to keep the energy high and the gameplay thrilling.

How We Built It We used Snap Spectacles' capabilities like Spectacles Interaction Kit, Sync framework to develop the core gameplay mechanics, such as shared experience, colocation and interactive gestures like pinching to grab objects. The game integrates dynamic object spawning and real-time tracking to ensure every round feels fresh. A live scoreboard was added to motivate teams and create a competitive edge. Throughout development, we prioritised simplicity and accessibility, ensuring the game could be enjoyed by players of all skill levels.

Challenges We Ran Into Making the lens a shared experience was our biggest challenge. Syncing the object transforms, separate scoreboards for the teams, assignment of colours required extensive testing. We also had to fine-tune the gameplay mechanics to make communication between players feel natural while optimising world tracking for random spawning of the objects in the players surrounding. Managing the timer and leaderboard in real time posed additional technical hurdles.

Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of We’re proud of creating an engaging, collaborative game that brings people together in meaningful ways. The seamless integration of Spectacles Interaction Kit, Sync framework capabilities into a simple yet dynamic gameplay experience was a major achievement. Watching players break the ice and form connections during testing was the ultimate validation of our concept.

What We Learned This project taught us the importance of collaboration—not just in the game itself, but in its development. We learned how to optimise capabilities for interactive experiences, design intuitive gameplay mechanics, design 3D objects using Gen AI and create a tool that fosters trust and communication. It reinforced the idea that technology can enhance human connection in powerful ways.

What’s Next for ICEBREAKER We plan to refine the game by adding new challenges, themed objects, ability to add more than 2 teams and customisation options to make the experience even more engaging. Ultimately, we envision ICEBREAKER being used at events, workplaces, and schools worldwide to transform introductions into unforgettable experiences of collaboration and fun.
