iRest is a chrome extension which monitors a person and keeps track of his time spending in front of screen in order to avoid Computer Vision Syndrome.

Detailed Explanation of the problem

Nowadays, computers are playing a major role on our lives. Mankind these days are spending a lot of time in front of it, whether he/she maybe working or playing games or browsing etc.. But sometimes they forget to put a limit to these activities which causes Computer Vision Syndrome. Computer vision syndrome, also referred to as digital eye strain, describes a group of eye- and vision-related problems that result from prolonged computer, tablet, e-reader and cell phone use.

Detailed explanation of the solution

This is where iRest comes to play. It keeps track of user's time spending in front of computer and warns the user to have a break. Also it detects the lighting of the room as it is one of the causes of CV Syndrome. The extension also detects the screen brightness and compares it with the room lighting to check if it can be harmful for a human's eyes. If so then it warns the user. This extension can be really useful for people who have hard time in limiting their time spending in front of a computer.
