Describe the problem your idea is solving People with visual, speech, hearing and physical impairments, have to be dependent on others for support. The lack of independence is a hindrance not only for them but also for the ones who perpetually have to provide for them. They too must have facilities whereby they are able to navigate their surroundings without having to bank upon others. This allows them to have the means at the time of emergencies. It is hence of utmost importance that we find a way to provide facilities to the ones who for so long have only known to live by depending on others.
What did you build iCan is an interactive application specifically designed for specially-abled people which has features that would bring them a step closer to being self-sufficient. The software application uses predefined maps for navigation purposes through augmented reality and speech output. Supported on both Android and iOS, the software is designed to recognize all types of impairments to provide the personalised solutions suited best for different conditions. In emergency situations, it reaches out to the subject's trusted contacts and broadcasts their location keeping the close ones aware of the subject’s progress as well as regression.
What kind of impact are you expecting to have with this solution Our personalised solution would give people with impairments their independence from dependency on other people to perambulate through certain environments. This can be used for the ease of navigation in individual buildings with offline guidance systems as well. With respect to emergency situations, it would act as a beacon which would broadcast their location to trusted contacts and provide them with the nearest accessible emergency route. iCan embodies the core humanitarian values providing people with disabilities the respect and individualism that they rightfully deserve. This would bring about a sense of self-sufficiency in the mindsets of physically challenged people.
