Inspiration

The inspiration for this project stemmed from the widespread challenges faced by individuals living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Recognizing the profound impact IBS can have on daily life, we aimed to create a comprehensive platform that not only provides personalized diet plans and exercise recommendations but also offers valuable resources and community support. Our goal was to harness the power of AI and natural language processing to develop a user-friendly chatbot that could deliver tailored advice and insights. By addressing the unique needs of IBS patients, we hope to empower them with the tools and knowledge to manage their symptoms effectively and improve their overall quality of life.

Intended Audience

The website targets individuals suffering from IBS who need tailored dietary advice and lifestyle recommendations. This includes:

How we built it

1. Observation and Research:

  • Conducted detailed observations of the routines and dietary requirements of IBS patients.
  • Consulted with healthcare professionals and dietitians to gather expert insights and validate the findings.

2. Design and Development:

  • Utilized the insights from the research phase to design a user-friendly website interface focusing on ease of navigation and accessibility.
  • Developed a sophisticated chatbot using Botpress, an AI technology platform, to provide personalized recommendations.

3. AI Technologies Used:

  • Botpress: An AI platform used to develop the chatbot, enabling natural language understanding and interaction.
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP): For understanding user queries and providing relevant responses.
  • Logical Statements in JSON: Developed logical statements in JSON format to train the chatbot, enabling it to handle various user inputs and scenarios effectively.

4. Testing and Feedback:

  • Conducted user testing sessions with IBS patients to refine the chatbot and website features.
  • Gathered feedback from dietitians and healthcare providers to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of our IBS management website, we encountered several challenges that tested our resilience and problem-solving abilities. One major hurdle was integrating the chatbot with complex natural language processing (NLP) capabilities to ensure accurate and personalized responses for users. Ensuring the chatbot could effectively interpret and respond to a wide range of symptoms and dietary needs required extensive testing and refinement. Additionally, compiling a comprehensive database of IBS-friendly recipes and exercise recommendations involved thorough research and expert consultations. We also faced challenges in creating a user-friendly interface that is both accessible and engaging, ensuring users can easily navigate the site and find the information they need. Balancing the technical aspects with the empathetic, supportive tone essential for our audience was crucial in overcoming these challenges and delivering a valuable resource for IBS management.

What we learned

What's next for IBS Management Website with Integrated Chatbot
