Inspiration

Our idea for I-Transport started with seeing the lack of transportation that so many students face. Rexburg does not have very many options for public transportation which includes the Walmart shuttle and the Salt Lake express. with such an influx of students in Rexburg during the busy semesters, the transportation infrastructure of campus and town, doesn't keep up for that many cars. Traffic is bad and there never seems to be enough parking for vehicles. John shared the solution he finds effective in his home of E-bike and E-scooter rentals. Bringing something like this will benefit the lives of those who may not have a car or have to park far away because there is not enough parking close to where they live.

What it does

The webpage provides a service that allows users to see where the different bikes or scooters are in town and what battery percentage they have. This site also provides a way that they can rent one and see which rides are available or not. It tracks the time so the users are charged by minute of use. This solves the problem by providing an affordable option for students so they don't have to worry about buying an expensive parking pass but they don't have to worry about transferring a bike to and from home between semesters or it getting stolen. It can also help students make it to class quicker.

How we built it

First, we discussed and design the wireframes for the website, and then we start to work on different parts. Colby works on the styling of the webpage, and Emma also worked on the styling and the content of the About, Products, and Contact pages. Tanner and John worked on the bike map; Tanner registered the Google Cloud and figured out the embedded map, and John worked on the rental logic, such as the bike battery consumption, the user account, and the balance. Finally, we used GPT to prettify our webpage and make it more reliable and efficient.

Challenges we ran into.

We ran into some problems with our filesharing method. We used github but ran into the problem of the same files being worked on sometimes. This led to someone's file being overwritten sometimes when we would push or pull things. We also ran into challenges with communication at some points and understanding the different visions we each had for the product that clashed sometimes but we worked it out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the learning about and using an API in this project and the map function that is involved. We are also proud of trying and participating in our first hackathon.

What we learned

We learned about how to use API's, that it is important to hide your keys, and how to hide your key. We also learned about how important it is to express ourselves and ideas clearly with one another to move forward cohesively as a team!
