Inspiration

I am preschool teacher of 15 years, and a mom of three children. While helping my children adjust to learning from home, and sending home lessons for my own students, I felt there was a need for a book like this.

What it does

This book will help spur dialogue between children and parents to address the emotional responses to being home during this difficult time.

How I built it

I wrote the words, and edited it, and then I convinced my 14 year old niece to illustrate it for me!

Challenges I ran into

Working together to create this book, while social distancing, ourselves, was a challenge.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of this book, and I think it will help children adjust to life at home, and the challenges that we are all facing day to day.

What I learned

I "self-published" this book on Amazon prior to hearing about this competition. I have not placed ads for it, and can remove it easily. I am not sure if it will qualify for the competition, but I am hoping you will recognize the beauty in it, and let me know if I should take it down.

What's next for I Sing When I Wash My Hands

I hope that it is circulated widely, and can help children handle their emotions, and help parents recognize the difficulty that their children might be experiencing.
