Share, care, and bond.

Being an LGBTQ+-identifying youth comes with a lot of risks for such a crucial period of development—in addition to facing discrimination and hate, there is a lot of vulnerability that comes with it, emotionally and physically—the dangers of being outed or coming out, having difficulty accessing LGBTQ+-specific healthcare, and more. This is, in part, due to a general lack of safety because of poor of education and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and health, as well as a lack of visible and accessible community. This all translates to a lack of self-confidence and self-acceptance that can harm LGBTQ+ youth.

To address this, we created I, a mobile app that scaffolds this lack of safety by offering knowledge and understanding, as well as healthy community and relationships, helping to cultivate confidence and self-actualization. We do this by offering subsidized LGBTQ+-friendly counseling resources, access to LGBTQ+ literature and resources, and allowing youth to build their own communities to foster a sense of belonging. As a result, I is a platform that focuses on sharing, caring, and bonding as a means to provide a safety net for a vulnerable population.

We hope to make I free-to-use, as many particularly at-risk LGBTQ+ youths are low-income and/or don't have access to their own private credit or debit card. This would protect the identity of the youth so that they aren't forcefully outed and can have a safe, accessible tool to help them navigate their journey. As a result, we hope to fund our platform through grants and partnerships with NGOs, governments, healthcare systems and rely on these sorts of donors and donations to keep our app as free (or as close to free) as possible.
