Inspiration

We wanted to solve a problem that is relatable and has affected a lot of people such as University students. Due to the uprise in cost of living due to COVID-19 Pandemic, war and price gouging, a discord bot was developed to help friends split expenses when going out and having fun so that neither of them end up poor.

What it does

Helps track costs owed, and helps track who are involved owing a specific amount.

How we built it

Using python discord library to create this and invite the bot to a discord server.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to intially do a website scraper for groceries to find the cheapest prices for students to purchase however we ran into issue of the defence mechanisms each website had, e.g we could test it a few times on Cole’s, Woolworths etc, but eventually it got IP blocked at the scraper stopped working

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to create a bot that can help university students stay on top of their finances, a tool to help friends and family take accountability.

What we learned

We learned to work under pressure and having to change plans under 48 hours on our first hackathon.

What's next for I Owe You

We want to hopefully input a receipt system and have a better gui with the bot so that is easier to run the bot as opposed to having to type the commands each time.
