The Theme: Dreaming Backwards, Living Forwards

How do dreams become real? This video begins with effects unwinding into causes, tracing each consequence back until the dreamer falls asleep. In this creative exercise, Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” vision surfaced as the most powerful example of what lies on the other side of a dream fully lived.

The Visual Language: Why PAPADU Was the Only Choice

Once the song was completed, Boy Math knew there was only one option for the visual realization.

“We never made a plan B. We never reached out to anyone else. The work demanded PAPADU, and no one else could carry the vision.”

PAPADU, an American-born artist of Nigerian descent with ancestral ties to the Edo, Yoruba, Michika, and Bakweri peoples, created the video in his distinctive style. His artistic journey, influenced by architectural training at Yale University and the personal transformation following his father’s battle with cancer, fuses traditional African forms with cutting-edge digital production.

The video’s visual arc — blending abstraction, surrealism, and vibrant color transformations — amplifies the song’s message of liberation and triumph. PAPADU’s work has previously been showcased internationally, including at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Fan Festival in Doha, the 2023 London Fashion Week, and Lagos’ immersive experience Nothing Is Unreal.
