Inspiration
This year's theme was nostalgia, and in an urban environment like Toronto, I often find myself missing the greenspace I grew up with.
What it does
I Need To Touch Grass allows users to quickly and easily find various natural areas near them, as well as pictures and directions.
How I built it
I used the Google Maps API to generate a list of nearby natural areas based on user input, pandas to sort and visualize the data, and Django to create a user interface.
Challenges I ran into
My teammate was unfortunately in the hospital, so I had to do it myself, which was difficult. I didn't accomplish everything I wanted to, but I'm proud of what I did accomplish.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This was my first time using an API, and it was also my first time doing Python full-stack development! I'm proud of myself for learning Django on the job.
What I learned
Building a web app seems like it would be easy, but it isn't!
What's next for I Need To Touch Grass
Hopefully finishing all the aspects of Django I didn't get to finish.
