Inspiration

During my six-month journey through China, I immersed myself in its culture, language, and traditions. Chinese children's storybooks — such as Sun Wukong and The Lady in the Moon — deeply shaped my imagination and inspired visual motifs within this project. Equally important were the people I met along the way, whose warmth and stories became part of the fabric of this film.

What it does

Spring in Qipao celebrates the importance of cultural literacy and the curiosity to explore beyond our own borders. It’s a call to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the richness of traditions that have shaped civilizations for centuries.

How we built it

This project was entirely created with AI filmmaking tools. From character design to animation sequences, every scene was crafted through iterative experimentation, combining storytelling with emerging technology.

Challenges we ran into

The most difficult part was maintaining consistency of the main character across scenes. Avoiding visual glitches such as motion blur while preserving a semi-realistic aesthetic required constant refinement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The greatest achievement is not only completing the film but also sparking curiosity and dialogue. Through this project, I began building a small but meaningful community of people who share a passion for cultural exploration and AI-powered storytelling.

What we learned

I learned that cultural storytelling through AI is both a technical and emotional process. Beyond prompts and models, it requires sensitivity to heritage, symbolism, and the responsibility of representation.

This short film is just the beginning. I aim to develop it into a series that follows the main character’s life story, weaving together cross-cultural experiences, historical elements, and modern reflections. My vision is to create a cinematic journey where technology and tradition meet — opening new chapters of discovery.
