Inspiration

A portfolio website is a unique way to showcase your work and let others know about yourself. It’s like an evergreen platform for your projects, case studies, and information about you. In addition, it’s one of the best ways to express your personality, experience, and capabilities.

Having your own website means customers are always able to find you and if interested, reach out for you. If you don’t have an online presence nowadays, you are behind the times. A portfolio is a great way for photographers, designers, developers and a wide range of artists to present their work online. It lets you reflect your identity through your works – photos, graphic design, sketches, etc.

Why "I need some space"

In a nutshell, you need a portfolio website to showcase your work. Whether you’re an individual, a small team of two or a company of ten people, it’s crucial that you have a unique online approach. A website portfolio will help you stand out from the crowd, show your uniqueness, build trust, and make sure that others can actually find you.

There are certain areas where a website portfolio is more important than others. If you find yourself in one of the following, it’s safe to assume that you need a portfolio like a book needs words:

  • Web design
  • Web development (outsourcing, online shop)
  • Graphic design (logo design, corporate ID, flyers, catalogs, packaging)
  • Marketing (digital marketing, print design, SEO, PPC advertising)
  • Art design (illustration, video, audio, photography)

But it doesn’t stop just there, the same goes with interior designers, artists, models, writers, etc. The main idea is that you are a creator and you need to showcase your work. Portfolio website lets you do that in high quality.

What it does

  1. Showcase of your works. Show bright and appealing visuals that will convince visitors to look for more details. You can choose the most appropriate one and decide on your best works to add.

  2. Call to action. Provides your visitors with a variety of ways to get in touch with you. To grow your network, social media buttons are included in your portfolio website as they will be of huge help in building stronger connections and keeping clients and followers updated at all times.

How I built it (Surprise Element)

My tech-stack personifies my ideology. You don't need anything fancy to build an impressive personal website. Everything you see here was accomplished using plain ol' HTML, CSS and JS.

Challenges I ran into

  • Envisioning the layout of the entire app
  • Trying to achieve a futuristic design while making it mobile compatible
  • Issues with loading speed and overall app performance
  • Accessibility score and overall visual appeal
  • Achieving all this using vanilla HTM, CSS, JS without any fancy frameworks like React or Vue

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • The website is built from scratch using HTML, CSS, JS without any template
  • Developed a fully functional version of the project under the given time constraints
  • Aesthetics of the application
  • Managed to communicate well and work together in a remote environment
  • Created a full responsive web application
  • The final result was very similar to the initial wireframes

What we learned

  • Idea brainstorming
  • Power of good ol’ HTML, CSS and Vanilla JS
  • Project management with Github
  • Publishing and sharing the project by hosting it

What's next for I need some space

Sky is the limit. You can be as innovative with the personal portfolio as you want. How bout a UI that let's you edit specific part of the website without a single piece of code. In future, we expect to transform "I need some space" to a fully-functional personal website theme
