Inspiration
Our inspiration came after an intimate discussion we had with one another about our diverse national backgrounds. All our team members are of Eastern European, South Asian and South-East Asian origin. We realized we had one thing in common, the societal pressure to succeed academically and a certain kind of comfort that only came from our grandmothers.
What inspired it? + What makes it uniquely human?
Our inspiration came after an intimate discussion we had with one another about our diverse national backgrounds. All our team members are of Eastern European, South Asian and South-East Asian origin. We realized we had one thing in common, the societal pressure to succeed academically and a certain kind of comfort that only came from our grandmothers. What makes our project uniquely human is the very idea behind it. We believe understanding emotions is something that AI can never do. Our emotions and the ideas that went behind making this project are all rooted in our origins, life experiences and personal philosophies which an AI could never create.
What it does
Our Project is a warm space that provides an average stressed student with the comforts they could get while studying at their grandmother's house. There are various features included to help boost the student's productivity like a pomodoro timer to develop proper study habits, task list that's organizable based on priority, customizable embedded Spotify playlist that'll prevent losing focus from having several tabs on and a sweet AI powered grandma chatbot that will keep encouraging the student, listen to their problems and remind them to drink water, just like a real grandmother would.

Challenges we ran into
We ran into several challenges but the most nerve-wracking challenge we ran into was deploying the website on GitHub. The entire team was racking their brains in order to figure out the issue. Turns out that GitHub was case sensitive, and we only needed to change the name of the js file. This wasn't a challenging bug at all but due to the time constraints we were all on the edge of our seats.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of having built an AI chatbot feature, an elaborate To-do List which has other intricate features like sorting out tasks based on priority. And most of all we're proud to have built a full project for our first hackathon despite the various challenges we faced.
What we learned
We learned various technical skills like using an API, improving on our html and css skills, hosting a website on GitHub and using descriptive prompts to generative AI to obtain the required result. Other than technical skills, we also learned invaluable skills such as teamwork, time management skills and proper planning.
What's next for I Miss My Grandma's House
Since we all have busy schedules due to university, it is not clear if we can work further on the project but if time permits it, we'll work on improving the features, adding original artwork, work on the bugs in the code, add several more features we couldn't due to time constraint and improve the overall user.
