Inspiration
I was inspired by the theme, and what I know I could do. Since I don’t have any experience with UI and other things, I’ve decided to brainstorm project ideas that I can do within my ability, and then build on them. Since the only thing I can start building on is my month’s worth of Java, I’ve decided to create a program in Java. Though the theme was optional, I wanted to see what I could do.
What it does
The name of my project is 'VALENTINA', and she's a virtual companion for Valentine's Day! The user can converse with her through a series of questions, with some room for the user to answer on their own.
How we built it
I began by creating a problem. By creating something that people would want for something that they could possibly lack, that would bring in interest. Some people want to play a game or do something fun for Valentine's, so maybe they want to play something Valentine's-themed. Or maybe, they're single and would like to try out some sims, or maybe they just want to try and have someone to talk to. Nonetheless, I wanted something that people would be interested in trying out. For the coding, I started with what I already knew and began to build on that. I did plenty of research since I didn't really know how to properly do things like if/else if/else statements with strings, nor did I know how to create string variables.
Challenges we ran into
VALENTINA isn't my original (first project) for this hackathon. My original idea is called 'Cupid's Pocket', and it's a storyline-based game where you wake up as a cherub (a lowly angel) and your job is to shadow Cupid on Valentine's Day. As you follow Cupid on Earth, you enter a 3rd person perspective of realistic couples in different scenarios around the world. In the end, the MC (aka the user), would end up falling in love with a human (which is actually a fallen angel, so she could actually see the MC too). Because the MC is a cherub and isn't physically a human, he makes a deal with the fallen angel (that looks like a human girl) in order to be with her and other things happen. It's very much different than my VALENTINA project, but I'm happy enough that I could create such projects now. Thing to note: IT IS CURRENTLY UNFINISHED
