“I’m not a robot” – Project Story

Inspiration

“I’m not a robot” was inspired by the tension between humanity and machinery. The project grew out of the small frustrations of repeatedly solving CAPTCHAs, which made me reflect on the ways humans try to eliminate errors and pursue perfection. It explores the blurred boundaries between reality and virtual spaces, asking what it means to remain human in an age where AI increasingly mirrors human behavior. The guiding concept comes from my message: “Feels Real. Is Not.”

What it does

The work visualizes the mind as an error and perfection as silence. It turns everyday mistakes and emotional responses into a reflection on how humans are becoming more mechanical, while machines grow more human-like. Ultimately, the project asks a single question:

Through imagery, sound, and narrative, it captures:

  • Human emotions and errors as visual and sonic experiences
  • The paradox of AI and human behavior
  • The emptiness left when perfection erases human flaws

How we built it

The project was built in layers:

  1. Conceptualization: Capturing inspiration from real-life moments, like the feeling of failing a CAPTCHA.
  2. Visual design: Generating abstract, emotionally resonant images using MidJourney.
  3. Video production: Assembling the sequences and animating them with Kling.
  4. Sound design: Composing natural-sounding voiceover and music in Suno, using the lyrics as dialogue to produce realistic speech.
  5. Integration: Combining visuals, narrative, and audio into a cohesive experience that communicates the philosophical core of the project.

AI functioned as both a tool and collaborator, helping refine ideas and providing unexpected creative inspiration.

Challenges we ran into

  • Translating abstract ideas about humanity and imperfection into concrete visuals and sound.
  • Balancing the philosophical narrative with immersive audiovisual storytelling.
  • Prioritizing emotional truth over technical perfection, requiring repeated experimentation and iteration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully using AI to visualize human questions about identity and perfection.
  • Transforming everyday errors into meaningful artistic moments.
  • Creating an experience that invites the audience to reflect on their own humanity.

What we learned

  • Organizing ideas and emotional intent before working with AI yields the most meaningful results.
  • AI can act as a creative partner, not just a tool, expanding the possibilities of human expression.
  • Focusing on narrative and emotion, rather than technical experimentation alone, deepens artistic impact.

What’s next for “I’m not a robot”

Future work will explore the mind and emotional existence, extending from thought into lived experience. I aim to visualize anxiety, fear, and warmth in a world of rapid technological acceleration, continuing to probe the evolving relationships between humans, machines, and virtual reality.
