Inspiration
The idea sparked during a late-night meditation where I drifted into what felt like a lucid dream. I imagined: What if meditation didn’t lead to peace… but to a cosmic battleground? That question became the foundation for “I’m Late” — a surreal short film where titanic elemental beings clash in a dream, only for everything to vanish with the sound of an alarm at 3:33 AM.
I wanted to explore the inner chaos hidden beneath calmness, the vast potential of the mind, and the fragile boundary between stillness and imagination.
What it does
“I’m Late” is a one-minute cinematic short film that follows a dreamer who enters meditation and accidentally stumbles into a mythic dimension. There, massive elemental titans — fire, storm, and shadow — engage in an epic battle until they obliterate each other in a burst of light. The dream ends abruptly with the character waking up late, reminding us how vast the inner world can be… even during sleep.
How we built it
• Custom Gemini AI tool: Designed to place chosen characters in any outfit and setting, enabling fast visual prototyping. • Midjourney: Generated surreal concept art of the dream world and the titans. • ElevenLabs: Voiceover narration in a natural, dynamic tone. • Luma Dreams: Turned images into animated cinematic shots. • Epidemic Sound: For original music and layered sound effects (ambient tones, alarm, elemental crashes). • DaVinci Resolve Studio: Final editing, pacing, sound design, and color grading.
Challenges we ran into
• Achieving visual consistency across AI-generated shots while maintaining narrative flow.
• Balancing humor and awe in a story that’s only one minute long.
• Managing rendering limitations in video tools, requiring creativity to keep scenes smooth and dynamic.
• Designing believable titan movement using still images and inferred motion.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
• Built a complete story with cinematic quality in under one minute using AI tools. • Created a custom workflow that allows fast, flexible worldbuilding with high visual consistency. • Delivered a piece that feels both personal and fantastical — relatable and epic at once.
What we learned
• Meditation is more than silence — it’s a portal to entire universes within.
• Tight storytelling constraints force sharper visual and narrative decisions.
• AI tools are most powerful when paired with strong artistic direction and emotional intent.
• Audio (especially narration and music) is just as critical to immersion as visuals.
What's next for I’m late
• Expanding the concept into a micro-series exploring different inner worlds unlocked through altered states of consciousness. • Adding interactive elements like branching dream paths powered by AI narrative generators. • Integrating voice actor performance capture to further humanize the narration. • Developing a mobile or web-based experience where users can input a mood or dream, and generate a custom visual meditation journey.
