Inspiration

I'm A Genius started in a family group text and was developed by brothers David and Michael. David, who came up with the idea for the game, originally sent images as clues for a gift he was making for family members. Over the course of 4 years, it developed into images, categories, and clues sent through texts much like you see in the finished app. David is responsible for the substantive content in the game and Michael did the coding.

What it does

You are presented with several groups of 20 games. Chose a game and you see an image. The idea is to find the connection between the images (usually there are about 5 in a set). Once you know what all the images have in common (the category) you then have to determine what each image (the clues) represent. You are scored based on how long it takes to correctly answer the category and clues, how many images you viewed before getting the category, and whether or not you used any of the in-game help.

How we built it

I'm A Genius was built using XCode and Swift.

Challenges we ran into

Neither David nor Michael have any actual coding experience. But using training available online and a lot of help from artificial intelligence software, Michael was eventually able to get enough skills to create the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Just getting the app available at all is our proudest accomplishment. David had wanted to make the family game into a public app for a couple of years, but paying someone to do it was out of the question.

What we learned

Using SDKs like RevenueCat really do help make an app polished, professional-looking, and easier to create than using bespoke code.

What's next for I'm A Genius

We have just recently launched the app (obviously) and are getting our friends and family engaged with it. We want to continue marketing it and grow our user base.
