Inspiration
We wanted to create a app for us to communicate with our friends from back home easily.
What it does
I Love You to the Moon and Back is a photo messaging app. It allows you to send a friend a notification request called a wish. To respond to a wish, you send a real time photo called a shooting star. There is also a caption feature and like buttons.
How we built it
We first prototyped the app using Figma. After designing the layout and determining what functionality we needed to implement, we developed the app using Swift in Xcode.
Challenges we ran into
We had limited prior knowledge on swift so we had to learn as we went. We also struggled to first figure out how to share the project to work on it collaboratively, and at the end it was difficult to merge the final subparts into one project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For our first hackathon, we are very proud of our results. We had strong ideation and conceptualization for our app, but we were able to develop a viable prototype for our application
What we learned
We learned how to use swift and Xcode. We also learned how to build rudimentary frontends for mobile apps.
What's next for I Love You to the Moon and Back
Because of our limited knowledge and time, we could not implement all of the functionality that we had originally intended. We had also wanted to include the following features and hope to do so in the future.
- messaging and reactionary system for the photographs
- real time push notifications
- keep track of number of likes through a "stardust" progress bar
- develop a way to save the photos you receive from friends
- develop and improve the GUI to make it more accessible and intuitive
