Inspiration

Before the competition, I went to visit Dadu, Larkana, Khairpur, and nearby interior places with my friends. I observed a very less number of tourists and it was a difficult experience to search for places, directions, hotels, etc. The people there were very good and they welcomed us with their open hearts and amazing hospitality. This is where I got the inspiration for this idea. To create an app to bring this history to digital platforms and promote the history and beauty of Sindh.

What it does

Currently, this is a simple listing app to showcase popular tourist places across various cities in Sindh with their details, history, pictures, and directions. I am working on to add more places and more details in the app with the time.

How I built it

Design: I have created the designs and logo in Adobe XD. Development: I used the Flutter + Dart as the primary framework for the development of the app. Mostly I used Android Studio but I also have used Visual Studio Code sometimes. Version Control: The project code is hosted on Github. I have used the native integrations of Android Studio and VS Code tools for the git integration. Data Management: At this time, I have added a simple static JSON file with all the data of places in the app. I have a plan to migrate this data to Firebase and integrate networking inside the app so that users can get the latest and updated information.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge I faced was the dynamic user interface. With the original experience in native Android development and less experience in Flutter, this became a difficult task. Because in native Android, UI and coding are kept in separate files and it becomes easier to update the UI. But in Flutter, initially, it was confusing for me to see how UI and code integrate seamlessly and how to manage the state. JSON parsing also took lot of time of me and was a challenge as well.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

In a very short time of just 2 weeks, I developed a polished app for both iOS and Android using modern technology Flutter. This is the main accomplishment of me and this is the only reason I participated in this hackathon, To make something with Flutter and see how far can I get.

What I learned

I learned that sometimes things look easier to develop but they are actually challenging and time-consuming. I have learned to better estimate the tasks and resources and I will keep improving it.

What's next for I Love Sindh

I will migrate all data from static to Firebase and add more data and places. I have some more features in mind to develop and I will continue with those. I will add support for Web as well using the Flutter's Web Support.
