Inspiration

We’ve handled ordering for businesses for companies before and realized how much manual work there was in sourcing vendors and placing orders. We would have to call dozens for vendors to negotiate pricing for all of the SKU’s to be managed. We also spoke with procurement teams at large enterprises who had a similar problem, but even more magnified given the volume and sizing of the deals they had to manage. Enterprises hire teams of buying agents, paid ~$77k / year, of which there are 572k in the US, to do this process.

What it does

Nexus automates all of the manual rote tasks in the procurement process so that procurement team members can just focus on exercising their judgement. It identifies, calls, and negotiates with vendors for SKU’s and services. This helps enterprise teams save millions a year by enabling them to negotiate with significantly more vendors than they would be able to manually.

How we built it:

We built a voice agent with Retell AI, and connected it to AgentOps. On the frontend side, we used Next.JS.

Challenges we ran into:

Configuring a custom LLM with RetellAI was challenging.

Integrating AgentOps for various function calls

Setting up function calling to know when to end call

Creating a webhook for when the call has ended

Accomplishments we’re proud of:

Working demo

What we learned:

Voice agents and various challenges it creates

What’s next:

Two different types of people this could serve. Figure out who to start with:

  1. Serve SMB’s who need to do procurement - likely business owner or business manager who’s managing a lot of tasks
  2. Serve government & enterprise who have dedicated procurement teams
