Inspiration
This project began with a question: How can a Corsican lament be transposed into a universal myth? inspired deeply by À Filetta’s “A Paghjella di I Impiccati”, I imagined a distant world—Kalistea—where the emotional core of the chant becomes a cosmic allegory of oppression, courage, and spiritual resilience. The aesthetic blends Corsican tradition, neo-classical orchestration, and sci-fi/fantasy iconography, echoing mythical rebellion stories from epic cinema.
What it does
The video transforms a Corsican lament into a cinematic sci-fi narrative. It tells the symbolic journey of a girl and her brother resisting a transhumanist empire—using surreal visuals, archetypal imagery, and world-building to translate the emotional gravity of the chant into a universal, futuristic dimension.
How we built it
The entire visual sequence was created using Dreamina AI, cinematic framing techniques. The music acts as an anchor: the clips are arranged rhythmically to let the emotional dynamics of the reinterpretation guide the spatial and narrative progression.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was avoiding cultural distortion while translating a deeply rooted Corsican lament into a speculative universe. It required finding a balance between respect for the source material, aesthetic abstraction, and world-building freedom. Another challenge was ensuring narrative clarity without dialogue, relying solely on visual mythology and musical flow to tell the story.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
fuse Corsican polyphonic heritage with science-fiction epic language in a way that feels organic rather than forced. The emotional core of the chant—oppression, mourning, transcendence—survives and is amplified in a new realm. The world of Kalistea, the siblings’ bond, and the rebellion against the empire form a coherent mythos built purely from music and imagery.
What we learned
how far traditional music can travel when recontextualized through cinematic world-building, understanding of how to evoke emotional meaning without explicit exposition—using composition, pacing, archetypes, and atmosphere instead of narrative/dialogue explanations.
What's next for I impiccati
This piece is part of a larger collection of 25 videos forming a Corsican Anthology in alternate realms. The next step is to bring these visuals into live performances, where the music and imagery can interact dynamically, offering an immersive concert-experience.
