Coronary artery disease (CAD) is when the blood vessels that supply your heart muscle with oxygen get clogged or narrowed by fatty buildup called plaque. Over time, that buildup makes it harder for blood to reach the heart. Narrowing of arteries happens slowly. There are no pain sensors in the arteries.
