Inspiration
We wanted to create a teaser that showcases a pivotal character moment without explaining the full context. The goal was intrigue: give viewers a glimpse of Cedar's ruthless nature and invite them to discover more in the beta.
What it does
This marketing clip opens with six thuds in darkness, immediately creating tension. Visuals reveal the consequences of Cedar's actions as he glides through snowy night city air. His internal monologue reveals how he justifies what just happened, giving viewers insight into the villain's mindset. The clip ends with a title card inviting players to experience the full story: Propaganda Spy Agency - Play The Beta Now.
How we built it
We structured the clip to create mystery first (sound without context), reveal consequences second (visuals of the aftermath), then show Cedar's psychological state (his rationalizations). The snowy cityscape creates atmosphere while Cedar's calm demeanor contrasts with what he's just done, raising questions about his character and choices.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing intrigue with clarity in a marketing context. We needed the clip to feel compelling and raise questions without confusing viewers or giving away too much of the story they'd experience in the full game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a teaser that functions as both character introduction and story hook. Cedar's justifications reveal personality while the consequences glimpsed through visuals suggest stakes without spoiling the narrative journey.
What we learned
Marketing clips for narrative games resonate most when they pose questions rather than answer them. Showing a villain's mindset during a consequential moment creates curiosity about both what led here and what comes next.
What's next for I Did It Over Water
This clip promotes the full Propaganda Spy Agency interactive narrative available in beta, where players experience Cedar's complete rise to power and work to infiltrate his operation and stop his devastating propaganda weapon.
