Inspiration
Since time immemorial, being a policeman has been the dream for kids all over the world. This project brings that image into focus. Seeing themselves in a cool police cap and matching black goggles will serve as fun motivation for kids to go pursue their dream, and someday wear the uniform for real.
What it does
Detects and tracks the face in the camera and places a police cap on the head as well as black goggles on the eyes.
How I built it
Using Facebook's Spark Studio, I added a face tracker and a face mesh on top. The movements of the face thus get tracked automatically. I then imported 3-D models of police cap and googles, corrected placement, orientation and dimensions so as to fit on the face properly.
Challenges I ran into
Started from scratch, so had to go through numerous tutorials in order to figure out how to use spark studio.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Could come up with this effect as a beginner in AR development.
What I learned
How to use facebook's spark studio software, linking with sketchfab AR library to import 3-D models, adding objects and assets to the model. Changing and aligning 3-D models to fit the requirement.
What's next for I can be a policeman too!
Add custom audio effects to make it more realistic. Other interesting objects like toy-guns or clothing effect can also be added.
