Inspiration
We wanted to create something that makes networking easier, more natural, and fun. Too often, students and professionals miss out on opportunities because they don’t know where to start or feel awkward approaching new people. Hyve is designed to be that bridge—helping people connect through events, activities, and shared interests in a way that feels effortless.
What it does
Hyve is a networking platform that allows users to discover or host events, check in seamlessly with QR codes, and track their attendance. It creates a space where students and professionals can meet, collaborate, and build meaningful connections. Users can browse upcoming events, join communities, and grow their network—all in one place.
How we built it
We used React with Tailwind for the frontend, Supabase for authentication and data, and Vercel to deploy. Each event generates a QR code through an api for secure check-ins.
Challenges we ran into
- Setting up secure logins and permissions
- Making the QR check-in smooth and safe
- Designing a clean, modern UI
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A working event system with QR check-ins
- A modern, branded design
- A full-stack app deployed and running
What we learned
- Supabase authentication and security
- Building with QR codes
- The value of focusing on core features first
What's next for Hyve
- Better user profiles
- Smart event recommendations
- Messaging and networking tools
- Mobile-friendly experience
