💡 The Inspiration for HyprSLICEXR
I was profoundly struck by Spike Jonze’s film, Her. Specifically, the scene featuring the protagonist immersed in that futuristic, volumetric 3D game. It wasn't just gaming; it was true engagement with a spatial environment.
That vision immediately raised a question: If simple mobile mechanics like the endless runner can generate a vibrant mobile gaming scene, what is their potential when translated into mixed reality using cutting-edge volumetric rendering?
HyprSLICEXR is our answer. It’s a mission to elevate casual gaming from passive screen-swiping into a deeply physical, spatial experience that only XR can deliver.
🛠️ How We Built It: Tech Stack
To build hyprSLICE, we developed the game within Unity, leveraging its robust engine for XR deployment. Our proprietary visual signature is achieved using HLSL (High-Level Shading Language) shaders for the core volumetric rendering pipeline. This ensures environments feel tangible and reactive as the player moves through them, rather than simple 2D or particle-based effects.
For immersive, low-latency interaction, we utilized the Meta Interaction SDK. This integration enables us to map simple, familiar runner controls (dodge, jump, weave) directly to natural hand and finger movements via microgestures. This creates an intuitive engagement, turning the passive mobile experience into an active, zero-latency spatial challenge.
🚀 Release Strategy & Future Updates
Our launch is strategically planned for Q2 2026 on the Meta Horizon Store. We are currently optimizing the build to leverage the latest Horizon OS features, aiming for the primary Quest storefront to ensure maximum visibility within the core XR audience.
Post-launch, our development will follow a robust live-service model, continually expanding the core infinite runner loop:
- Q4 2026: Asynchronous Multiplayer (Ghost Races): We will implement Leaderboards and persistent ghost data, allowing players to physically race against the volumetric recordings of their friends' high-score runs.
- H1 2027: New Biomes & Volumetric Hazards: We plan to introduce two major environment expansions
- Ongoing: Customization and Gear: Continuous drops of new cosmetics and performance modifiers to reward high-score achievements and provide new progression paths.
We are building the future of casual gaming, one step at a time.
