Inspiration

The idea for Hyprlink came to me while working on another project. I kept running into the same problem: it’s tough to find quality, niche content online. Google’s top results only scratch the surface, and I knew there had to be amazing websites and resources out there that I just wasn’t seeing. Around the same time, I was watching Sean Allen’s Swift News on YouTube and realised something — communities of real people who share your interests can be far more valuable than any search engine.

That’s when the light bulb went off. What if we had a platform where people could easily share and discover those hidden gems on the web, all curated by a community of people passionate about the same things? That’s how Hyprlink was born.

What It Does

Hyprlink isn’t your typical social network. Instead of a flood of user-generated content, selfies, or personal rants, it’s all about sharing useful links to full websites and resources. Users can follow topics they care about, discover what others are sharing, save their favourite links, and share their own discoveries with the community. Whether it’s tech news, travel tips, or niche blog posts, Hyprlink is where you go to find real value on the web.

How We Built It

We built Hyprlink with SwiftUI and Firebase — a stack I’m comfortable with and enjoy working in. SwiftUI’s modern design made it the perfect choice for creating a sleek, intuitive user experience, and Firebase gave us the backend flexibility we needed. There was no strict methodology in place, but we spent a lot of time learning the best patterns for SwiftUI and figuring out how to efficiently structure the Firebase database. It was a huge learning experience, especially when it came to making the app scalable.

Challenges We Ran Into

One word: time. Both my friend and I have full-time jobs, so finding time to work on Hyprlink meant late nights and weekends. It was a challenge to keep momentum going and not let the project slip through the cracks. Another big challenge was figuring out how to categorise and recommend relevant content to users, while also managing content moderation. It took a lot of trial and error, but we made it work.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

Honestly, I’m super proud that we were able to build something we believe rivals the quality of top apps like Instagram, and we did it all in our spare time. It’s just me and my best friend, starting from scratch, with no huge company backing us, and yet here we are with something we’re really proud of. That’s pretty awesome.

What We Learned

The biggest lesson we’ve learned is to keep listening to users and never stop iterating. It’s not about getting everything perfect from the start — it’s about learning and making small, meaningful improvements over time. Hyprlink has grown through feedback from family, friends, and early user testers, and we’ll keep evolving it the same way.

What's Next for Hyprlink

Next up, we’re focused on getting Hyprlink out into the world and seeing how much traction we can gain. From there, we’re looking at improving the recommendation system, adding more robust search features, and letting users save links into categories. And of course, we’ll keep listening to our users to figure out what they really want.
