Hyfn.ai — Put your AI and Automation on Payroll

Inspiration

We built Hyfn.ai because we believe the future of work isn’t software. It’s a workforce of AI employees.

Small and mid-sized businesses spend countless hours managing tools that never truly integrate. Large enterprises hire expensive AI teams to make automation work. Most companies are left stuck in the middle — using disconnected AI tools with no way to measure or manage them.

We asked a simple question: what if AI employees were treated like people on payroll? That idea became Hyfn.ai — a workforce platform that helps businesses hire, manage, and pay their AI employees.

What It Does

Hyfn.ai gives businesses one place to manage every AI or automation workflow as part of a measurable, accountable workforce.

Each AI employee connects to the systems a business already uses, performs real tasks, and logs every action as a work task. Hyfn measures time and performance, tracks completed work, and rolls it up into a simple payroll-style dashboard.

The loop is simple: AI → Work → Logs → Payroll

  • Hire AI Employees – Create AI workers with defined roles, responsibilities, and tools.
  • Assign Work – Define jobs such as marketing, support, analytics, or outreach.
  • Track Performance – Every API call, automation, or workflow is logged automatically.
  • Bill Transparently – Hyfn aggregates completed work and generates weekly payroll invoices, turning AI output into measurable cost of labor.

Hyfn.ai turns AI usage into something every business understands — work completed and paid for.

How We Built It

Hyfn is designed to be tool-agnostic. It works with any model, automation, or platform — without locking users into one vendor.

  • Frontend: React + Tailwind + modern UI components for clarity and ease of use
  • Backend: Node.js APIs that handle AI job execution, work logging, and billing aggregation
  • Auth: Clerk for organizations and user management
  • Billing: Stripe for subscriptions and usage-based payroll invoicing
  • Database: Postgres for multi-tenant data and analytics

Hyfn can track and bill any AI tool — whether it runs on OpenAI, Anthropic, Retool, Snowflake, Zapier, or a custom workflow via code — through one unified framework.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Designing a system flexible enough to track any AI or automation tool without vendor lock-in
  • Mapping AI activity into a payroll-style format that’s intuitive for non-technical users
  • Ensuring accurate metering and billing across different kinds of AI calls and task durations
  • Building onboarding that feels like hiring a new teammate, not configuring another SaaS product

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

  • Built the first complete AI Employee lifecycle from onboarding to billing
  • Created automatic work logging that converts AI activity into payroll-style reports
  • Designed a builder experience where developers can publish AI skills and connect them instantly
  • Signed pilot customers already using Hyfn to measure and pay for automated marketing, reporting, and support work

What We Learned

  • Businesses understand payroll better than tokens, APIs, or credits
  • Adoption grows when teams can tie AI output directly to cost and performance
  • Being tool-agnostic creates scalability — any builder or team can bring their own automations
  • Framing AI as a workforce changes how companies view automation — from software expense to productive labor

What’s Next for Hyfn.ai

  • Builder API and Marketplace: Let developers create and monetize new AI employees and skills
  • Human-in-the-Loop Billing: Combine AI and human review seamlessly in the same payroll system
  • Multi-Agent Collaboration: Enable teams of AI employees to complete complex workflows together
  • Enterprise Dashboards: Give leaders insight into productivity, savings, and AI ROI
  • Open Beta Launch: Expand pilot access to 100+ businesses

Hyfn.ai helps companies bring AI and automation into their workforce — tracking every task, measuring every outcome, and paying for it just like payroll.

The future of work isn’t software. It’s an Artificial Workforce.
