Health, Dehydration AthenaHacks volunteers and administrators warning us about dehydration on the first day of AthenaHacks

What it does

Keeps track of the amount of water the user drank with fun upgrades and the appearance of new and exotic aquatic specimen. Assists users in avoiding the dangers of dehydration and allows them to record the amount of water they drank through a new innovative mobile app.

How we built it

Used Android Studio at AthenaHacks

Challenges we ran into

-3/4 of the team had never used Android Studio before -Time limit -How to code as a team when the software doesn't sync up and we are each working on different versions Turning our idea into a mobile app

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Submitting a mobile app together

What we learned

-How to work as a group

-To persevere in the face of a challenge -Splitting up the workload so that we work faster -Some things are worth the time and effort -How to use Android Studio

What's next for Hydrotank

-Animating the fish so that they swim around in the tank -Animating the waves for the water so it appears to be moving -Adding sound effects -Making the game aesthetically appealing (option to tap on water bottle, cup, plus icon to add amount of water) -Adding the special fish that we designed

Powerpoint Speech (Partial)

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, today we will be introducing our app for the very first time. Hold onto your seats, we are introducing “Hydrotank!”. I’m Jennifer and next to me you’ll find my teammates: Kelly, Kimberly, and Elyse. Before we get into the specifics of the mobile app. Let’s address some of the modern day concerns that my team based our application on— dehydration. We focused on the issue of health since this is something everybody can relate to. Whether young or old, everyone wants to be healthy. Now, before you is a glass of water, nothing more, nothing less, something that many of us take for granted. As we all know, roughly 75% of our bodies are made of water. Dehydration remains a serious issue today symptoms include: fainting spells, increased infection rate...and many more gruesome consequences including death in severe cases that I am not going to go into. Now many of us in the states do not suffer from severe cases dehydration. But how can we keep track of whether or not we’re drinking enough water to be healthy in a fun and innovative way that does not include primitive tick marks or relying on the generosity and fickleness of memories?
