Inspiration

From DBL Basketball Competitions, Jakarta Car Free day, or even after Physical Education lessons, we observed that the first thing people reach for after a physical activity is a pre packaged electrolyte drink. We realize hydration is a key factor for performance in Jakarta’s heat, especially if you exercise, but.. those pre packaged electrolyte drinks everybody grabs, contain lots of added sugar, its electrolyte mixture is not definite, and it contributes to the rising plastic waste we have. Inspired by this, we wanted to create something that has not yet been thought of. Water dispensers after exercise are everywhere, but what about a more customizable dispenser that offers more than just water?

What it does

HydroLyte is a customizable arduino based dispenser. It allows user to choose between three different levels of hydration, LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH. When a button is presses it activates the pumps and dispenses the programmed different proportions of water, electrolyte mixture, and orange juice. We envision this to be placed in sports halls, basketball courts, gyms, and other exercise facilities, acting as a more practical, accessible source of hydration and replenishment of electrolytes after a physical activity.

How we built it

Our building process was divided into two, the dispensation system and the base of the prototype We reused waste cardboard boxes and plastic bottles for the base of the prototype, then we placed 3 mini pumps inside each bottle and connected the pumps to the tubing. For the dispensation system, we connected the three buttons using an Arduino Uno and breadboard, while using the 4 channel relay module to control the pumps, and 4 AA Batteries as a power source.

Challenges we ran into

Due to limited materials and no prior experience, we ran into some technical challenges. The wiring itself was quite complicated and often very loose so we had to re-adjust it multiple times. Other than that, the battery only had two output wires yet we had to power three different pumps, as a solution we used a breadboard. These challenges required many troubleshooting, and patience but eventually, we managed to succeed in creating a working dispensation system.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we are able to complete a fully working dispensation system although it is our first try with no electrical wiring experience whatsoever.

What we learned

Working with an electrical system requires alot of troubleshooting. We learned to test everything step by step as we are building it so that we know if one part is unable to work. We learned that building a prototype requires teamwork and patience, building a

What's next for Untitled

In the future, we aim to make HydroLyte more precise, maybe using sensors to calculate suitable electrolyte concentrations for different users. We also hope to improve the accuracy and reliability of the dispensation system as well as make the design more user friendly and the wirings more organized. We believe that HydroLyte can eventually become the hydration of the future.
