Inspiration

The current landscape of hydrogen consumers, to ensure appropriate hydrogen consumption pooling of consumers is necessary, especially to develop hydrogen economy in the Baltics

What it does

Hydro-pool is a hub for hydrogen economy development and use. It ensures the environment and opportunity for production, storage, transport, and consumption opportunities as well as R&D and education with B2B approach. It spearheads the development of the hydrogen economy in Latvia and the Baltics and allows the customer base to grow by transitioning companies into hydrogen-based operations with a clear roadmap.

How we built it

Identified the problem not only in technical hydrogen use and customer base today but also the potential of the market to grow in the region. Formalized the necessity of consulting and knowledge transfer to the industry that would benefit from transitioning to hydrogen-based operations. Identified the necessary steps for this knowledge base to develop not only for industry but also for the whole region including RnD and academia.

Challenges we ran into

Vetting competition turned out to be full of misinformation and crucial information is "behind closed doors" Selection of proper storage solution of hydrogen in the median to the long timeframe.

What we learned

There is a lack of understanding of the technology base. There is more variation in incentives than just sustainability and profits. Local mindset and knowledge base are important.

What's next for Hydro-pool

Plan for the following years is mapped out, clear communication and agreement with the Pilot project of Hydrogen production, then building the team of experts and building the customer base upon launch of the Pilot.
