Inspiration
We got inspired by how businesses are transitioning to the new era of remote working. The year 2020 has been very hard on all of us and we are doing the best of our ability. Because of COVID-19, many things in our lives have changed, a good amount of people were laid off therefore increasing the amount of unemployment rate. Many HVAC technicians have to go to people's houses to fix the ac/heating system. During this pandemic it is a challenge for them for them to do their job right or to jeopardize their life. The customers can submit a ticket and get quick help and the technician won’t have to put their life in danger by going from house to house fixing the ac/heating system. Our dad who has an HVAC technician is our Inspiration. He is a hard worker and loves his work. He even worked during this brutal pandemic. who is a certified technician and genuinely wants to help people by providing free online HVAC service to to keep both the customers and the technician safe during this COVID 19 deadly pandemic.
What it does
People are trying to not pay a lot of money since there is an uncertainty of when the pandemic will be over. On the website there are couple of tabs which include quick checks, submit ticket, about us, join us, and contact us. The homepage of the website has a newsletter signup, where the user has an option of signing up for the weekly emails through the email. On the homepage you will also find various social media pages that the users can follow, reach out and or just stay up to date on any changes that occurs in the HVAC world like the prices and what is the best company use the unit from. The HVAC Repair Help website will allow people to ask questions about their ac/heating system and get professional help from Certified HVAC Technician, our Dad. Customers get answers within 24 hours. Depending on the availability of the technician. With the help of our HVAC technician, our father, we have built a website that can be used fulfill the basic needs of the customers before they call the HVAC technician.If the user chose to sign up for the new letter, they will receive a confirmation screen saying, “Sign up Successful”. With the quick check tab, there is a check list which the users can you before contacting the technician. The most common and basic issue of why the HVAC is not working is because the filter has not been changed for a while and people do not really realize. The second tab is submit ticket, where the user can use to contact our certified technician describing their problem and they will be responded back with the 24 hour period. After the user has been submitted their ticket, they will receive a confirmation alert on the page that says, “Submitted Successfully”. With the response back, the user will know whether or not they should call the technician or not- which is really helpful in saving couple of bucks. The about us tab is about credentials of our technician, so the users know that the information they receive from us is actual facts and not fake new. We also have a contact us page so the users can get in touch with us for any other general HVAC information.
How we built it
We used figma and UI kits to build this website.
Challenges we ran into
Some the challenges that we faced were with writing the code, coming up with an idea ,buying the domain, learning how to use Figma in order to make the website and trying to come up with a schedule that works for everyone that also gave them time for their school work. Everyone from our team was new to hackathon so adjusting took us a little time especially. We all are at different learning phases in life, Neha is a senior and is getting ready to graduate. Nida is a junior and is also currently new to the university. Ibrahim is a sophomore in highschool and is trying to adjust to remote learning. We originally wanted to create an app but unfortunately the app was going to take longer to create and would not have been ready by the submission deadline. Money was an issue, we wanted to buy the domain but it required us to pay a certain amount of money that we felt that it was not affordable for us as a team since we all are full time students and hey we are still in the pandemic. We believe as a team, the only thing that helped us finish this website project was organization and no procrastination. Everyone stayed on top of their part of the project and took equal amounts of responsibility.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Working together as a family and bringing our dad's wish come true. We are really proud to accomplish a website and how it turned out. We are also thrilled that the user can save money especially this time around. Everyone is doing their part to take the safest measurement; avoiding large gatherings, wearing mask in public places, staying 6 feet away from each other in public so we taught we do ours by creating a website.
What we learned
We have learned that there very cool UI kits out there that people need to take advantage of. We also learned that working together with siblings is SUPER FUN!
What's next for HVAC Repair Help
In future we plan on publishing our website and getting a domain name. We also plan on adding many great features like allowing people to insert images and videos to better enhance their question. A video calling feature to directly video call the technician during working hours. Previously Asked Questions feature, where the customers can also benefit from by searching if their questions were previously asked and answered.
